When Can I Change My Benefits?
Good question! Outside of the annual enrollment period, you can make changes to certain BMC benefits only if you have a "qualified family status change," also called a life event. In these cases, you have 31 days to make changes to your benefits. If you don’t take action, you'll have to wait until the next annual enrollment period in fall 2015 to change your benefits.
Examples of Life Events
Qualifying life events that allow you to make a change to some of your benefits include:
- Birth or adoption of a child.
- Getting married.
- Getting divorced.
- Beginning or ending a domestic partnership.
- Losing or gaining coverage due to a spouse's job change.
See the complete list of life events in the BMC U.S. Benefits Guide.
How to Report an Event
To report a life event outside of the Annual Enrollment period:
- Call the Benefits Center at 1-877-262-4849, or
- Go to the My BMC Compensation & Benefits website and select Your Benefits Resources (YBR). From YBR, hover over the Health and Insurance tab and select Take Action – Change Coverage, and then choose the life event from the drop-down menu.
