With popular and convenient food delivery apps, it’s never been easier to order takeout, but is the convenience really worth it? Restaurant meals can contain a lot of unhealthy ingredients. But it’s more than just the meal; cooking at home offers even greater benefits.
Cooking at home gives you an opportunity to reconnect with your partner, family, or friends while sharing the kitchen. People who cook at home often have a healthier diet than those who frequently order takeout. Restaurant meals typically contain higher amounts of sodium, saturated fat, total fat, and overall calories than home-cooked meals.
It’s easier to control portion sizes and watch your calories when you cook at home.
It saves time. Ordering takeout is not always faster. Depending on where you live, what time you order, and whether or not the delivery person is good with directions, this could actually take more time than if you’d simply made a meal at home!
It saves money too! Ingredients for an entire meal often come at a lower price than a single restaurant dish. You also usually get more meals out of a recipe cooked at home, like leftovers for work the next day.
