Fend Off the Vending Machine
Vending machines can wreak havoc with your best snacking intentions, especially around 4 p.m. when your resistance is low. Check out these tips for swapping salty or sugary snacks for more nutritious choices.
Plan for success: If the office vending machine doesn't offer a healthy, low-calorie selection, bring your own snacks. Keep just a few on hand so you binge on a huge stash in a weak moment.
Ask around: Chances are you're not the only one in your workplace who wants to enjoy a healthy snack. Ask others if they'd like to create a "snacking club" with you. Every day a different person can bring in a healthy snack for the club members. You'll probably get to try some new and interesting snack ideas too.
Choose wisely: Not all choices in the vending machine are off limits. Look at each item and see if there are any that won't sabotage your weight-loss efforts. If you're really hungry, the healthier selections will probably satisfy you.
Beware of beverages: Sometimes a drink is all you need. Look for water, seltzer, and sugar-free selections rather than sugared sodas or juices. If you're feeling fatigued, you might just be dehydrated, so down a bottle of water for the best pick-me-up!
