Wellness Begins with Prevention.
Time for Your Tune-up?
You probably know when your tires need rotated or your home heating or cooling system needs a tune-up, right? But what about you? When was the last time you got a routine physical or had a cancer screening? Preventive care is about making your health a top priority, even when you're feeling healthy and well. Regular checkups can uncover medical problems before they become bigger, more expensive health risks.
Get regular preventive care—it's free in-network. All BMC health benefits, including medical, dental and vision, provide a variety of preventive screenings and services for you and your covered dependents each year — most at no cost to you. That's one less excuse not to make an appointment with your doctor, dentist, and optometrist. Preventive care services include routine exams, tests and cancer screenings.
Get smart. See which preventive screenings and immunizations apply to you and your family. Guidelines are available here. Or talk to your doctor. Other preventive exams and cancer screenings may have age and time limit restrictions. Review your medical plan details on the Your Benefits Resources website. Click on Your Benefits Resources, then hover over Knowledge Center and select Plan Information.
Get going. If it's been more than two years since your last annual physical exam, go ahead and schedule one today. Some people schedule it for their birthday month as a personal birthday gift of good health. And don't forget your mammogram, colonoscopy, or prostate exam.
Good to know. The BMC Dental Plan now features dental rewards. Get at least one dental preventive service in 2013 and your maximum annual benefit will increase by $100 in 2014. If you remain enrolled in BMC dental coverage and continue receiving your preventive care services for the next three years, you and your covered dependents will keep earning the $100 increase in 2015 and 2016. Remember, the BMC Dental Plan covers 100% of the cost of up to three cleanings per year for you and your covered dependents.
It’s Time to Stress Less and Live More
Life is filled with unexpected ups and downs. Whether you're worried about a problem at work or dealing with a personal issue at home, stress can hinder your ability to move forward. It can affect your success at work, your relationships, and it can cause health problems too. The American Institute of Stress states* that stress causes adverse health effects in 43% of adults and 75-90% of visits to the doctor are related to stress.
While stress isn't always easily recognized, managing it is one of the most important things you can do to be healthier and happier. The ultimate reward for your efforts is a healthy, balanced life with time for work, relationships, relaxation and fun.

Why Everyone Needs an Emergency Fund
On the excitement meter, a "rainy day" fund might barely move the needle, particularly when compared with other financial goals such as saving for college, a retirement account, or a down payment on a new home. Yet investors who fail to include an emergency fund in their planning do so at their peril. Read More...
