Shop the Farmers’ Market at Work
Eating wholesome, fresh foods that are high in nutrients is the foundation of wellness. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), to get the amount that's recommended, most people need to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables they currently eat every day.
To help promote healthy eating, BMC is hosting the Westchase Farmers’ Market, Thursday, May 21 on the Houston Campus. You’ll find a diversity of fresh, healthy foods from local fields and meet the people who grow your food.
Where: Houston Campus (in front of Building 3)
When: Thursday, May 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Farmers’ Market Shopping Tips

Ready to Log 2 Million Steps in May?
How will your team complete 2 million steps in May? It’s time to make a plan and join the 2015 Step-It-Up! Team Challenge.
Join or form a team and compete against other challengers. Team Zombies, Team Vikings, Team Nerds… grab some friends and make a plan. Sign ups start Thursday, April 30.
To log 2 million steps, each member of a 10-member team needs to complete at least 7,000 steps per day (or the equivalent in other physical activities), 7 days per week for four weeks (about 50,000 steps each week). Getting 7,000 steps in each day is not as hard as you think! All kinds of activities can be logged, from time at the gym to chores around the house.
Teams who meet the 2 million steps goal will each earn 250 bWell points. Two teams will take home a $250 gift card for each member — one for the team with the highest average steps per member, and one for the team who wins the random prize draw.

Wellness Survey Closes
Thanks to everyone who took a few minutes to complete the wellness and Benefits eNews survey this month. The survey closed on April 23 and responses are being compiled now. Your opinions will help the U.S. Benefits Team plan and promote future bWell programs that meet your needs and health interests.
Congratulations to Bronwyn S, the lucky winner of the drawing for an Apple iPad!
BMC Has Your Smile Covered
How often should you see the dentist? That depends. Your dentist will usually recommend the frequency of visits based on your current dental health, your dental history, and your personal preference.
The BMC Dental Plan covers three dental cleanings each calendar year at no cost to you—and no deductible. Now is a good time to use your dental benefits…. before summer vacation and everything else that gets in the way. Regular dental cleanings can significantly reduce your risk of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease.
Visit the MetLife Oral Health Library for more information on how to stay mouth healthy for life.
It’s Healthy to Relax and Recharge
When you take a break—whether it’s a five-minute timeout at work, a restful weekend trip or a full vacation/staycation—you’re not dodging your duties. In fact, you’re responsibly “recharging your batteries” so that when you return, you’re able to be at your best. Breaking up stress improves your energy, clarity of thought, creativity and productivity.
Your Magellan EAP invites you to a complimentary webinar, “Relax and Recharge,” on Wednesday, May 13, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Central. Space is limited, so be sure to register now.
Log on and learn!
Can’t attend the webinar? Look for Recharge on the Magellan member website under the Library/In the Spotlight section. (When prompted, type in BMC’s toll-free EAP number,
1-800-327-1393).
