April is National Stress Awareness Month
Stress affects most of us – it's how our minds and bodies react to change. A difficult change such as divorce or illness can cause severe stress. But happy changes such as having a baby or starting a new job can cause stress as well.
If you're having trouble coping with the stress in your life, here are some resources that can help.
- Contact Magellan, the BMC employee assistance program (EAP), at 1-800-327-1393. The EAP is designed to help you and your family members deal with issues that cause stress at work and at home.
- Talk with your doctor. Your primary care physician can help determine whether your symptoms indicate a more serious problem, such as anxiety or depression. Your doctor can also refer you to a counselor or therapist in your area.
- Talk with clergy members or other counselors at a house of worship. Members of your faith community may be able to offer support.
