New Commuter Benefit Offers Tax-Savings and Convenience
Starting December 1, 2014, you can set aside up to $130 before-tax each month to pay for mass transit (passes, fare cards or vouchers for the bus, train, subway or van pool). The before-tax feature means your contribution reduces the amount you pay in federal income taxes, Social Security taxes, and state and local income taxes.
How to participate
- Create an account on the Your Spending Account™ (YSA) website and elect an amount up to $130 per month before-tax. You can also elect after-tax, and pay for these contributions with a credit card.
- YSA will send you a reloadable Commuter Account card when you place your order. You can load your card each month between the 1st and 10th, or you can set it up to load automatically. You can use the card anywhere you pay for transit expenses.
- You can enroll or change your Commuter Account elections on the YSA website as often as once a month throughout the year. Commuter Account orders must be placed by the 10th of the month to be effective for the following month. For example, if you want a Commuter Account card to use in January, you must make your elections by December 10.
Make your Commuter Account election between December 1 and 10 by going to mybmcrewards.com > Visit My Spending Accounts > Commuter Account.
