Your Backup Care Benefits Are Changing for 2027

Beginning January 1, 2027, Cariloop will replace Bright Horizons as BMC's caregiver support provider. Your backup care benefit will change from 10 days to 60 hours per year, with the flexibility to use care in increments as small as one hour.

Bright Horizons will continue to provide your current backup care benefits through December 31, 2026.

NEW FOR 2027: Cariloop Caregiver Support

Beginning January 1, 2027, Cariloop will provide BMC employees with caregiver support resources and more flexible backup care options.

Through Cariloop's Find Care feature, you can search for vetted care providers or request personalized assistance finding childcare, senior care, pet care, household services, and more.

More Flexible Backup Care

Your backup care benefit will change from 10 days to 60 hours per calendar year, allowing you to use care in increments as small as one hour.

With Cariloop, you can:

• Access up to 60 hours of backup care annually, with a maximum of eight reimbursable hours per care event.
• Receive up to $15 per hour toward eligible backup care services, with no employee copayment.
• Use backup care for qualifying situations, including unexpected disruptions to regular care, planned care gaps, caregiver medical needs, and changes to your work schedule.

Eligible backup care services include center-based care, in-home care, pet care, and academic support and tutoring.

Additional information about accessing Cariloop and using your 2027 caregiver support benefits will be available January 1.

Bright Horizons Backup Care Advantage Program — Through December 31, 2026

Finding the right child, elder or even pet care solution can be challenging. When regular care arrangements fall through, it can be difficult to find quality backup care alternatives. BMC has partnered with Bright Horizons Family Solutions to offer you the Backup Care Advantage Program, giving access to a national network of high-quality care solutions for both your children, elderly family members, and pets. The company provides Backup Care to you automatically – you do not need to enroll in this coverage. 

The Backup Care Advantage Program can help when:

• You have a new baby and need short-term care while you transition back to work.
• Your child's school or child care center is closed for breaks, teacher in-service days or inclement weather.
• Your stay-at-home spouse is called in for jury duty or has an appointment.
• Your parents (who live out of state) have a regular in-home care provider who is sick or on vacation.
• An adult or elder family member—including yourself, your spouse, parents, or in-laws—requires homemaker or companion services, such as household tasks, cleaning, cooking, shopping, or laundry.
• You need a pet sitter.

Cost of Service

BMC covers the majority of expenses for up to 10 days of backup care per year, per employee. If you decide to use any of the recommended services, the copays are:

• $15 per child or $25 per family for center-based care,
• $6 per hour (4-hour minimum) for in-home care.

Register in Advance

Register in advance so that you are ready to use the Back-Up Care Advantage Program when you need care. You can register two ways: Online at clients.brighthorizons.com/bmc and enter the BMC employer username: BMC and password: care4you, or call the toll-free number at 1-877-BH-CARES (1-877-242-2737). Care Consultants are available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. You will be asked to provide the care recipient name, birth date, any known allergies and an emergency contact.

• Activity Hero marketplace for in-person and online camps, classes, and events including art, music, sports, outdoor adventure, tutoring, STEM, and more serving students in K-12.
• Preferred enrollment access at select Bright Horizons child care centers.
• Discounts off tuition for full-time care at select participating network child care centers.
• Free registration to Sittercity.com and free basic background checks
• Online, self-serve and self-pay resources to search for and connect with:
  • Babysitters, nannies, adult caregivers, and pet sitters
  • Eldercare resources, planning, and referrals
  • Tutoring, test prep and homework help
  • Housekeepers and additional homework help.

Pet Care

The Backup Care Advantage Program includes pet care. You can exchange 1 Backup Care use (1 day) for pet care services with either Rover or Wag! To use this benefit, go to clients.brighthorizons.com/bmc to register.

Virtual Tutoring and In-person Tutoring at Sylvan Learning

Whether you’re trying to figure out your kids’ homework, helping them study for a test, supporting your college student with their classes, managing your own schoolwork, or all the above, your BrightHorizons^® tutoring benefit makes life easier.

You can exchange 8 hours of backup care (1 day) for 4 hours of tutoring (up to 40 hours per benefit year) and pay only $6 per hour. Tutoring is available virtually or in person at participating Sylvan Learning centers.

The IRS considers the fair market value amount of your Bright Horizon’s benefit minus what you’ve paid for your Bright Horizon’s copay, if applicable as imputed income.  This means you will see this value on your annual W-2 statement, and it will also be subject to taxes and reflected on your paycheck.
